Space Coast Health Foundation Awards Grants to Enhance Health in Brevard

The Space Coast Health Foundation is a grant making organization benefiting the residents of Brevard County through collaborative projects to meet the healthcare needs of our community. The funds for the foundation came from the sale of Wuesthoff Health System in October 2010.  The specific community health care needs chosen for funding are determined through focus groups, one-on-one interviews with community representatives and quantitative research.

For the 2014-2015 fiscal year, the foundation distributed grants totaling $1,320,193. This included a $1 million grant in partnership with Health First to Brevard Health Alliance for expanding access to care for individuals who do not have health insurance or have limited resources for health care.  The foundation also funded a special pilot project to help women without health insurance who are experiencing abnormal uterine bleeding receive the care they need to return to active, productive lives. The special pilot project was a collaborative effort between many health care providers in the county. The foundation refers to these grants as Venture Grants.  Venture Grants focus on key health care needs in Brevard County such as access to health care and are collaborative projects.

In addition to the Venture Grants, the foundation also is pleased to announce its Pickett Responsive Grant awardee’s for the 2015 grant cycles. Pickett Responsive Grants enhance the health and or wellness of Brevard County residents through the work of the many wonderful organizations in our county.  The responsive grant process is named in honor of our first board chair, Fran Pickett, who played a significant role in the creation of the foundation.

Congratulations to the 2015 Pickett Responsive Grant awardees:
